The plane for working coal has main chisel groups at both ends, for the two directions of travel, and also adjustable bottom chisels offset rearward relative to these. The bottom chisels (27A, 27B) are set back, relative to the main chisel groups (22A, 22B) to such an extent that the bottom chisel extended in the operative position is sited at the rear end of the plane in the vicinity of the main chisel group which is running idle. The bottom chisels may be led in straight-running sliding guideways (29).
