The method involves regulating the position of a friction-burdened positioning element (100), such as a proportional valve, a constant valve or a hydraulic valve, whereby outgoing from a first reference value (ULS) and a first actual value (ULI), a signal (Al) is determined for the control of at least one control device (110, 115) which influences the position of the element. A second signal (A2) is determined by a second regulator (165), outgoing from a second nominal value (SGS) and a second actual value (SCI), for the control of the control device, whereby the second nominal value is defined in such a way, that the positioning element is constantly in a sliding condition. The second regulator provides preferably a periodical signal, whose frequency (fs) depends on the comparison between the second actual value and the second nominal value, so that the positioning element is excited to oscillate.
