The winding structure involves a first phase including a set of windings (30,31) wound on a first set of stator poles (A1,2;C1,2) and connected to a first current generating circuit (32). The second phase includes a second set of windings (33,4) on a second set of stator poles (B1,2;Dl,2) and connected to a second current generating circuit (35). The second phase further includes a third set of windings (36,37) connected to a third current generating circuit (38) and wound in opposite directions from the second set of windings. The second phase is thus energised by the output electrical current from the second current generating circuit less the output electrical current from the third current generating circuit (38), the input current signals for the two phases thus exhibiting a 90 deg. phase differential.
