PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of obtaining a bright and clear display in both of a transmission type display in the case of driving a lighting device and a reflection type display in the case of stopping the lighting device, reducing the power consumption by further lowering luminance of the light source of the lighting device and prolonging the duration times of batteries of various electronic equipments. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device is constituted so that a liquid crystal layer 11 is held between a pair of transparent substrates (transparent glass plates 10a, 10b) having a transparent electrode on its inner surface, and with a liquid crystal panel for generating light scatter by this liquid crystal layer 11 is provided. The device is constituted so that the lighting device (backlight device B) consisting of a transparent light transmission plate 20 and the light source (side light S) arranged on at least one end part of the light transmission plate 20 is provided on the rear surface of the rear side between a pair of transparent substrates 10a, 10b and a light absorption body A is provided on the surface opposite to the liquid crystal panel of the light transmission plate. |
