PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid image pickup device in which an external memory process, etc., is unnecessary before inputting into a display unit of output data and a frame rate can be appropriately changed without raising drive frequency. SOLUTION: In a solid image pickup device having a vertical transfer part 12 transferring electric charges generated in a light-receiving part to a vertical direction and a horizontal transfer part 4 transferring electric charges from the vertical transfer part 12 to a lateral direction, an electric charge sweep-out part sweeping selectively electric charges from the vertical transfer part 12 in response to control signalsϕc applied is provided in connection positions of both the transfer parts 12, 4. Specifically, the electric charge sweep-out part comprises a control electrode 34 to which the control signalsϕc is applied, a potential barrier region in which magnitude of barrier potential is changed in response to the control signalsϕc, and an impurity region 26 on which electric charges are swept out via the potential carrier region. If these sweep-out electric charges are discharged via the control electrode 34, and further a diffusion potential of the impurity region 26 is also controlled together with the potential barrier region by the control electrode 34, it is preferably to facilitate electric changes sweep-out control.
