PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve write-in performance of a thin film magnetic head and to suppress generation of reading error in reproducing. SOLUTION: Before forming an upper magnetic pole, 45NiFe thickened layers 7 consisting of 52 to 57wt.% Fe are laminated without being exposed to a slider floating surface 15 from the inside of a throat height region to an element rear part in a region in which no upper and lower magnetic pole joining part 14 is contained and then a 45NiFe upper magnetic pole 8a is laminated on a whole surface thereof with 0.1 to 0.5μm film thickness. Further, sum of thicknesses of laminated films of the 45NiFe thickened layers 7 and the 45NiFe upper magnetic pole 8a is made to be 0.2 to 1.0μm to form an upper magnetic pole 8b. Thereby the thin film magnetic head, in which magnetic field intensity and magnetic field gradient at the time of writing-in can be made larger and which generates fewer reading error without lowering efficiency at the time of reproducing, can be provided.
