An improved thermal printer is disclosed for providing a high quality image with minimum or no edge margin in the printed image and stable feeding of the paper. The paper (100) is fed from the paper tray to the drum (10) and the leading edge of the paper is detected by a sensor (110); the signal from the sensor (110) is sent to a motor to rotate a cam (90) and an interlocking lever (80) to move a slider (70) to the left and thus an actuating lever (65) connected with a spring rotates clockwise to move an interlocking pin (21) in the clamp (20) to clamp the paper. And the motor rotates the drum positioning the leading edge of the paper at the initial printing zone (104) facing the printing head (200). The clamp elastically impresses the guide rollers (50,51) and feeds the paper clamped by the leading edge.
