Image dynamic range conversion device

The dynamic range conversion apparatus uses a background evaluation device (12) providing an estimated background image. There is also a mask generation device (14) and a parameter estimation device (16). Each of these receives the original image and provides an output signal which is used for formation of the output image (22) by the dynamic range conversion device (18). The dynamic range conversion device may be coupled to an edge filter (20), for providing a filtered output image.
