The method involves inserting virtual containers which are received in a network node in transport modules (STM). The transport modules are used as switching frames. Preferably, the transport modules are formed using the ANSI and the ETSI standards to support the virtual containers. Received virtual containers are inserted in a switching frame before the containers are transferred to a switching network with the standard with which the containers are supposed to exit the network node.
