The sensor-actuator bus system has an interface component (5) for connecting each sensor (1) or actuator (1) to the bus system with a central control unit (3). The interface components have addresses enabling the control unit to poll the sensors and/or actuators. The bus system has several sub-systems with sensors and/or actuators connected via bus lines (2) and connected to the central control unit via repeaters. Each repeater has an interface component supplied with the same address and different sub-addresses by the control unit. Identifiers placed in the interface components by the control unit are used to enable or block bi-directional data communications with the sub-systems connected to the repeaters. The repeater identifiers are selected so that data communications are only enabled with one subsystem at any one time.
