PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an optical fiber preform excellent in quality by raising the degree of cleaning of air to be supplied to a reaction chamber and further properly regulating humidity in producing the optical fiber preform by a vapor- phase axial deposition method. SOLUTION: In this method for producing an optical fiber preform by depositing and growing a soot 1 by a vapor phase axial deposition method, when the soot 1 is deposited, clean air conditioned at 45-55 deg.C at <=10% humidity is supplied from an air intake duct 3 to a reaction chamber 2. |
