PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the speed attainable for starting coating application without disturbing a normal stationary state of coating operation by shearing the uppermost layer of a liquid coating film compsn. or the layer which first comes into contact with a base at the time of starting coating application and making these layers thin. SOLUTION: The device of this method is composed of a hopper 1 consisting of two components 12, 13. The respective components have inlets 2, 3 and outlets (outlet slots) 4, 5. The coating film compsns. for the respective layers may be supplied to the compartments 12, 13 by these inlets 2, 3. The supply of the coating films to a coating application zone 6 is made possible by the outlets. Then, the first layer of the coating films is applied from the compartment nearest a hopper lip 7. The hopper lip 7 under the stationary state of coating application conditions is the coating application zone which is a place where all the coating layers come into contact with the base 8 transported by a coating application roll 9. The top layer of the coating film compsns. is reduced in the thickness by shearing in order to eliminate the problems associated particularly with the start of the all coating applications.
