PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hydrogenation catalyst capable of hydrogenating both the arom. ring and cyano group of an arom. cyano compd. and capable of performing a hydrogenation under milder conditions than the conventional conditions, especially under a lower pressure. SOLUTION: An alloy is composed of a metal A (Ru), a metal B (at least one among Co, Fe, Ni and Zn) and a metal C (at least one among Al, Si, Zn and Mg but the metals B, C are not simultaneously Zn) so as to regulate the weight ratio of (a+b)/(a+b+c) to 0.10-0.85 and the weight ratio of b/ (a+b) to 0.01-0.5 [(a), (b) and (c) show the weights of the metals A, B, C, respectively]. The resultant alloy is developed to obtain the objective Raney catalyst. Both the arom. ring and cyano group of an arom. cyano compd. are hydrogenated with the catalyst. |
