PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a utilization efficiency of light and to obtain a bright picture with a low power consumption by forming a pixel of three colors R(red), G(green) and B(blue) on a slab type beam splitter. SOLUTION: The slab type beam splitter has structure where a translucent film is formed on a transparent base plate and a function to divide an incident light beam into two luminous fluxes. By forming the pixels of three colors R, G and B on the beam splitter, not only the light of a backlight but also the light from the periphery of a display screen can be utilized. Namely, a color filter equipped with the pixels of three colors R, G and B on the beam splitter is utilized by reflecting light from a light source on an opposite side to the backlight and the brightness of the display screen does not simply depend on the luminance of the backlight. In the case of using the backlight whose power consumption is little and whose luminance is low, the display screen becomes brighter in the case of utilizing the light from the light source on the opposite side to the backlight. |
