PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a material generating a radical by bringing the material into contact with a liquid and comprising a vitrified carbon by firing a thermosetting resin powder having a prescribed particle diameter at a specific temperature. SOLUTION: This material generating a radical is obtained by firing a thermosetting resin preferably obtained by wet grinding and having <=100μm particle diameter, preferably 0.1-20μm average particle diameter and more preferably 0.1-2μm average particle diameter at 500-1,000 deg.C, preferably 600-800 deg.C. A phenol/ furfuryl alcohol/HCHO-based resin is preferable as the thermosetting resin and a resin composed of 15-40wt.% phenol, 15-40wt.% furfuryl alcohol and 30-55wt.% HCHO is especially preferable. A liquid for generating the radical is preferably a liquid having 18-200 molecular weight, and water, an alcohol, hydrocarbons, pyridine, acetonitrile and dimethylsulfoxide are exemplified. |
