PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image.audio transmission system in which the load on the circuit mounted on a portable digital camera is relieved. SOLUTION: An image compression/expansion circuit 50 is provided with a communication control circuit 52 and a buffer memory 54 and a function to send data to a personal computer 100. A digital image signal sent from a camera signal processing circuit 10 is compression-processed by the image compression/expansion circuit 50. A sound picked up by a microphone 6 is converted into a digital signal by an audio A/D converter 8 and fed to the image compression/expansion circuit 50. The image compression/expansion circuit 50 is not provided with a compression processing circuit for a digital audio signal. The image compression/expansion circuit 50 sends the compressed image data and the non-compressed audio data to the personal computer 100.
