The steering wheel mounting is connected to a steering column and is axially secured through a crosswise fastener. The fastener is brought into contact with the column in a gripping condition. At least one clamp (10,11) is provided as a fastener and has half-sections fitting into the steering column and mounted in the hub. The clamps can be removed laterally using tools. The clamp can be spring biased into clamping contact with the column. The clamp can be positioned above or below the fixing point of the steering wheel hub to the column.
