PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain indium oxide-based powder high in sinterability by making indium hydroxide adhere to the surface of indium oxide powder. SOLUTION: First, indium oxide powder about 1-15m<2> /g in BET specific surface area is added to an aqueous strong acid solution such as about 0.05-0.2M HCl and the resultant solution is subjected to grinding treatment suing a medium agitation-type mill in the presence of bends each about <=3mm is diameter at the number of revolutions of about 1,000-2,000rpm for about 5-30min. Subsequently, a weakly basic aqueous solution such as ammonia water about 10-29wt.% in concentration is added to the resultant system to effect about pH9-10 followed by further grinding treatment at the number of revolutions of about 1,000-2,000rpm for about 30-120min, thus preparing a slurry. Next, the slurry is subjected to solid-liquid separation using e.g. a centrifugal separator, and the resultant solid matter recovered is washed, dried, ground, and then classified, thus obtaining the objective indium oxide-based powder about 0.2-1.5μm in average particle size provided with an indium hydroxide coating layer 1-10nm thick on the surface. A molded form obtained by molding the powder is backed at about 1,300-1,400 deg.C for about 1-5h, thus affording an indium oxide sintered compact >=85% in relative density. |
