A method for treating effluents by anaerobic fermentation to remove sulphates therefrom without generating methane, wherein the hydrogen sulphide generated is stripped using an inert gas, characterised in that it is implemented in a single infinitely mixed, i.e. completely mixed free-culture reactor in which stripping is performed directly using an exogenous inert gas delivered into the biomass, and the residence time of the effluent in the reactor is from 2 to 48 hours while the pH of the medium is self-adjusted to 6.7 +/- 0.2. |
