DECOMPOSING METHOD OF ORGANIC MATTER IN WATER BY PHOTOCATALYST

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently oxidize and decompose org. matter in a water-base liquid by filtering water-based liquid containing org. matter through a porous film containing a specified photocatalyst under specified pressure while irradiating the liquid with light. SOLUTION: A water-based liquid 18 containing org. matter which can be oxidized is supplied through a liquid passage 34 to a device 30 to add an oxidizing agent, while at the same time, an oxidizing agent 31 is supplied by a pump 36 and uniformly mixed by a stirrer 33. The water-based liquid 18 with addition of the oxidizing agent 31 is passed through a passage 19 and supplied to a surface of a filter membrane 11 composed of TiO2 or the like under 0.15 to 12atm pressure and filtered. The filtrate is taken out through a passage 15. In a filtering process, the filter 11 is irradiated with light from a light source 12 so that the org. matter in the liquid is changed into a highly active oxidized state and decomposed by oxidation. When the org. matter in the liquid is not completely oxidized and decomposed, a part of the liquid is returned through a liquid passage 17 to the device 40 to add the oxidizing agent and treated again.
