PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent clogging of a ported communication with the atmosphere by setting the separation distance in a specified range when the ink in an ink jet head is sucked by means of a suction unit through a cap and the cap filled with the ink is separated from the ink jet head thereby preventing evaporation of ink. SOLUTION: A cap 21 is abutted against an ink jet head 2 by means of a cap moving unit 45. Ink 16 in the ink jet head 2 is then sucked through the cap 21 by generating a negative pressure from a suction unit 27. Subsequently, the cap 21 is separated from the ink jet head 2 using the cap moving unit 45 without communicating with the atmosphere. The separation distance is set in the range of 0.1-0.8mm. According to the arrangement, clogging of a port communicating with the atmosphere can be eliminated. |
