The connector has two subscriber waveguide networks, each having n inputs and n outputs. A demultiplexer nas k1 input ports and n output ports to which input wavelengths are allocated while preventing two input wavelengths of the same value appearing at the output. A multiplexer with n input ports and k2 output ports puts the signals in a predetermined order of wavelength. AN optical switch (34) selects certain of the n outputs and applies signals of a particular wavelength to certain input multiplexer ports for transfer to the output so as to be interconnected. k1 and k2 may be equal to each other and both are less than n.
