A marking insert (10) for an injection or press moulding tool, has an outer cylindrical body (11) with an engraved end surface (MK) having a first mark and a coaxial rotatable inner body (13) within the outer body having a circular surface (MZ) with a second mark (35), both surfaces facing the tool cavity. The inner body (13) has a rear face (37) supported on a cylindrical shoulder (14) of the outer body (11) and a stem (18) which extends through a central passage (17) in the shoulder into a rebate on the rear side of the latter. A pretensioned spring (24) lies between the shoulder (14) and the annular body (25). The annular body (25) forms a holding block and is connected to the stem (18) by a press-fit pin or spring pin (27) passing through aligned radial bores (20,21) in the annular body. The pin (27) is inserted through a radial opening (22B) in the wall of the outer body (11) allowing the annular body (25) and stem (18) to rotate within the outer body. .
