A device (6) for retaining one or more support nails (5) introduced in fractured or otherwise injured bones (1) of human beings or animals includes a coil shaped member similar to a common tension spring with thinly spaced turns. The coil shaped member is designed to be threaded on the ends of the support nails (5) at the orifice for introduction (3) and a stop prevents the support nails (5) from protruding through the coil shaped member. The turns of the coil are preferably provided with a radially outwardly directed ridge or edge for cutting its own tap in the bone and the marrow when mounting the retaining device (6).
