PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a composition for external use, containing a specific glycoside, highly safe for skins and exhibiting a skin-beautifying effect and a figure-thinning effect only by applying a simple treatment to a body. SOLUTION: This composition for external use contains a glycoside of the formula (G is a group selected from monosaccharide residues and oligosaccharide residues; R is a 8-11C linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group). The glycoside of the formula is compounded in an amount of approximately 0.05-5.0wt.%. The glycoside of the formula is obtained by condensing nonylic acid vanillylamide with an acetylated saccharide in the presence of a catalyst such as boron trifluoride or phosphorus oxychloride and subsequently deacetylating the reaction product in the presence of an alkali. The glycoside of the formula is e.g. nonylic acid vanillylamide-D-glucoside (αorβ-isomers) or nonylic acid vanillylamide-D-galactoside (αorβ-isomer).
