The shears (1) have an electric operating drive using a small electric motor (2), coupled via an intermediate gearing (3) to a lifting device (4), with the motor housing attached to a base-plate (17). The movable cutting blade (5) is secured to the lifting device via a coupling piece (7) and cooperates with a stationary cutting blade (6) secured to the base-plate. The electric motor, the intermediate gearing and the lifting device may be provided by a separate hand tool.
