PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a promoter for the melanogenesis, capable of manifesting the melanogenetic activities and utilizable as a hair tonic or a suppressant for the melanogenesis, capable of suppressing the melanogermsis and utilizable as a beautifying and whitening agent and to provide a method for producing the promoter and suppressant by which the promoter or suppressant for the melanogenesis can readily and efficiently be produced. SOLUTION: The promoter for melnogenesis comprises an alcoholic extract of propolis. The promoter for the melanogenesis is produced by extracting the propolis with an alcohol or a hydrous alcohol. The amount of the produced melanin attains, e.g. 200% based on the control by using the promoter for the melanogenesis. The suppressant for the melanogenesis comprises an aqueous extract of the propolis. The suppressant for the melanogenesis is produced by extracting the propolis with water or warm water at 30-60 deg.C. |
