PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thin display device with its high brightness utilizing a micro-electric field emission cathode by directly visualizing light emission of a phosphor from a phosphor surface side, i.e., from a back face of a cathode plate using a transparent conductive film for at least an area constituting pixels of an emitter electrode line and a gate electrode line. SOLUTION: A cathode plate 10 is composed of a glass substrate 6, an emitter electrode line 3, an emitter tip 1, an insulation film 5, and a gate electrode line 2. The emitter electrode line 3 and the gate electrode line 2 are made of transparent conductive films 3a and 2a and metal films 3b and 2b, and a metal film does not exist at a portion corresponding to an pixel area. An anode plate 11 is composed of an anode metal film 7 and a phosphor 8 on a substrate 12. Electrons emitted from the emitter tip 1 toward the anode metal film 7 emits the phosphor 8, and this emission transmits the transparent conductive film 4 and the glass substrate 6 and is discharged to the outside. Thus, light emission of the phosphor 8 can be viewed directly, and a thin display device with its high brightness is obtained.
|
