PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain pleasant operability and natural zooming effect by realizing smooth zoom start and sure zoom stop. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a ring member 1301 concentrically provided with respect to a lens optical axis, a detecting means detecting variation in accordance with the rotation of the member 1301, a control means controlling at least the moving/stopping of a variable power lens group in an optical axis direction based on the detection result of the detecting means, and an inhibiting means inhibiting the variable power lens group from being stopped during a predetermined period even if the rotation of the member 1301 is stopped. The zoom lens is inhibited from being stopped for the predetermined period even through the rotation of the member 1301 is stopped, so that the zooming operation is prevented from being repeatedly driven/stopped even though the detection of the rotation is hard to be performed because the member 1301 rotates at a slow speed. |
