A process for the separation of dimethyl ether and chloromethane in mixtures

Separation of Me2O/MeCl mixtures comprises: (a) extractively distilling the mixture in a column with an organic liquid, an aqueous salt solution or water as extractant and with MeCl being drawn-off as the top product; (b) distilling the Me2O/extractant sump product in a column with Me2O being drawn-off as top product; and (c) recycling the pure extractant sump product back to the first column.
