The conductor guide uses one or more flexible sleeves, secured at their opposite ends to the stationary and movable parts of a sliding insert, so that the relative spacing of the fixing points for the sleeve ends is greater in each possible position of the insert than the displacement path of the movable part. The length of each flexible sleeve and its position within the sliding insert are selected to ensure that the sleeve is curved between the fixing points with a maximum overall change in direction of less than 180 degrees.
