PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a highly hydrophilic polyolefin material used for a separator for an electric cell by modifying the surface by a treatment by bringing a polyolefin material into contact with a gas containing fluorine gas and sulfurous acid gas and dipping the treated polyolefin material into an alkaline aqueous solution. SOLUTION: (A) A material consisting essentially of a polyolefin is treated by bringing the material into contact with (B) a gas containing fluorine gas and sulfurous gas and dipping the treated material into (C) an alkaline aqueous solution to provide the objective highly hydrophilic polyolefin material. The gas of the component B preferably comprises 0.01-30vol.% fluorine gas, 0.1-90vol.% sulfurous gas and 0-95vol.% oxygen gas. Moreover, the component C is preferably 0.001-18N aqueous solution preferably containing an alkali (ne earth) metal. Thereby, the polyolefin material is made hydrophilic in a simple process without a specific operation such as a replacement of the gas. |
