PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel organometallic compound of a specifically substituted indenyl uncrosslinked metallocene which is useful as an olefin polymerization catalyst with a markedly high activity in combination with an organoaluminum compound as a cocatalyst. SOLUTION: This novel compound is a substituted indenyl uncrosslinked metallocene represented by the formula (In is an indenyl radical substituted in at least one of its 1, 2 and 3 positions with a 1-10C hydrocarbyl radicals or a 1-4C alkyl-bearing trialkylsilyl radical; Cp is an unsubstituted cyclopentadienyl radical; Me is a transition metal of titanium, zirconium or hafnium; Q is a 1-12C hydrocarbyl radical, a 1-12C alkoxy radical, a 6-12 aryloxy radical, H, a halogenide). This metallocene is useful as an olefin (for example, ethylene or propylene) polymerization catalyst of markedly high catalyst activity in combination with an organoaluminum compound, for example, methyl aluminoxane as a cocatalyst.
