<p>A method and system for biological nitrification of wastewater. The process entails a mainstream wastewater treatment process and a sidestream process, wherein the sidestream process produces supplemental nitrifiers that are directed into the mainstream. The sidestream process includes directing a liquid stream having a high ammonia concentration such as dewatering liquid (76) at an elevated temperature into a sidestream nitrification zone (78). The resulting nitrifiers are directed into the mainstream (56), where the nitrifiers enhance nitrification and allow operation at low sludge retention time conditions where nitrification otherwise could not be sustained.</p> |
