PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst and a processing method for exhaust gas to purify nitrogen oxides with high efficiency. SOLUTION: This catalyst is prepared by depositing rare earth metals, strontium, silica, noble metals and magnesium on a porous carrier in such a manner that alkaline earth metals and silica are in an amorphous state. This catalyst is used to purify nitrogen oxides in exhaust gas containing sulfur oxides and oxygen by using at least one of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide in the exhaust gas as a reducing agent. Thereby, NOx can be purified while suppressing the poisoning of SOx. |
