Coated magnetic particles comprise: (a) a core containing nano-crystalline magnetic particles of Fe3O4, psi -Fe2O3, double oxides or hydroxides of divalent or trivalent iron with divalent and/or trivalent metals, oxides or hydroxides, and (b) a coating consisting of a polymer having reactive groups capable of undergoing covalent bonding or ion exchange. Also claimed are aqueous solutions containing these coated magnetic particles.
