Sliding and resilient rail shoe assembly

A new shoe assembly supports railway tracks on sleepers (2). A plate (3) with ridges on top is mounted on the sleeper, to house the base flange (1a) of the rail (1). This flange runs between ridges lying along both sides. A clamping device holds the rail down onto the plate. In the novel assembly a sliding bearing plate intervenes between the underside (A) of the rail flange and the upper surface (B) of the ridged plate (3). Preferably, a steel/elastomer plate combination is used, the elastomer beneath, sliding on the ridge plate. The elastomer plate is e.g. natural-, styrene butadiene-, or chloroprene rubber, with a vulcanised-on, adhered or simply overlaid plastic plate, especially of PTFE. The ridged plate may be cast into a concrete sleeper.
