<p>This invention provides a golf ball constituting or having a cover or coating consisting in whole or in part of a fluoropolymer. The fluoropolymer may be a perfluoropolymer that is sulfonated or carboxylated or a derivative thereof, and may comprise from 1 to 100 % of the cover. The fluoropolymer material may be blended with conventional golf ball cover or coating materials. This invention also describes a method of enhancing the cut resistance, abrasion resistance, and durability of a golf ball comprising the steps of: a) forming a golf ball core; and b) forming a cover around said core by either comrpession molding preformed half-shells of cover stock material comprising a fluoropolymer about said core or by injection molding cover stock material comprising a fluoropolymer about said core. Another method of enhancing the cut resistance, abrasion resistance, and durability of a golf ball in accordance with the present invention comprises coating the golf ball with a fluoropolymer material as described herein.</p> |
