A device is disclosed for cooling hot gasses, in particular for cooling smoke gasses or exhaust fumes from smoke gas cleaning plants, designed as quench or tube bundle coolers. The disclosed device for cooling hot gasses, in particular for cooling smoke gasses or exhaust fumes from smoke gas cleaning plants, designed as a quench or tube bundle cooler, has a cylindrical outer body (2) joined by sealing flange unions in a gas- and liquid-tight manner to an inner body which consists of a flat, round bottom (3) to which several pipes (1) with a defined height are secured in bores arranged at regular intervals. The cooling principle consists in intimately mixing gas and liquid in the pipes, the cooling effect being achieved by evaporation of the cooling medium.
