PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily execute test printing and to early discover an inconvenience of a print head by providing a test printing mode wherein a distance that this device is scanned on a scanning face is detected and the printing is performed on the scanning face corresponding to the detected output signal. SOLUTION: When an operator selects a test printing mode by using a test printing mode setting switch 10, a CPU reads a test print pattern stored in a ROM. When a scanning print section 20 is scanned on a paper, printing is performed by each one dot line so as to print by all of the dots by means of an ink jet head 2 in accordance with an output signal of a rotary encoder 14. The one dot line that is printed on the paper by the test printing just before is read by a scanner 8 and the read data is temporally stored in a RAM. The read data by the scanner 8 and test pattern data are compared with each other. When they are not in agreement with each other, it is judged that there occurs an inconvenient in the print head or the like, then an LED 11 is turned on to alert to an operator. |
