The safety device is used in continuous presses for manufacturing chip-material, fibre, and similar wooden or plastic material plates. The press has two flexible, continuous steel bands (6). The steel bands transmit the pressure and draw the pressed product through the press. The steel bands (6) are guided by drive drums and reverse drums around the press table or bar. The steel bands (6) transfer the pressed product via a coating device to an insert gap on the lower steel band. In the insert gap (11) of the press, a wire cable (10) is attached over the whole width of a mat of press product (4). The cable (10) has several wire loops (12) on the mat (4). The wires (12) trigger a safety switch and stop the press (1) when there is an increased spillage of chips or fibres to the upper steel band (6) providing pressure.
