Automatic controller for liquid volume delivered through pipe

The flow rate passing along pipe is measured by a meter having an impeller (3.1) that rotates at a speed proportional to speed. Axially attached to the impeller is an incremental encoder disc (5) that is sensed optically (6). The pulses generated in a given period is proportional to actual flow rate and a computer (9) compares the total flow volume passed with a reference value. When the reference value is reached a signal is generated to activate an electro magnetically actuated shut off valve (4) in the line.
