PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a container having the function of being opened or closed from both sides of a cover opposed to each other with no projections by which the clothes of an occupant may possibly be hooked and no divided parts or stoppers by which an object may possibly be nipped. SOLUTION: A container comprises a box body 1 having an opening 9 in its top, and a cover 13 which is movable to the closed position of covering the opening 9 of the box body 11 and to the opened positions with respect to the opening 9 of the box body 11 from both sides of an edge 11a opposed to each other of the opening 9 of the box body 11. At positions of the opening 9 of the box body 11 covered by the cover 13 in the position of covering the opening 9 of the box body 11, a pair of engaging parts 27, 28 and 29, 30 with predetermined intervals in the direction along the both sides, and at the both side ends of the cover 13, engaged parts 13a and 13b are arranged respectively which permit the disengagement from one pair of engaging parts 29 and 30 and the engagement with the other pair of engaging parts 27 and 28.
