The mechanism immobilises a tool and particularly a medical instrument. The instrument may be held by an articulated arm on a support. The arm has one or more hinge axes, at each of which there is a friction brake component on one section (50) of the arm and permanently pressed against a mating component on the other section by a thruster member, which can be released, typically by a pressure-operated ram. The friction surfaces can taper, and there can be a passage connecting the two chambers in the ram. USE/ADVANTAGE - Instrument immobilising mechanism is compact and easy to use, esp. with operating table. |
