The cover is particularly for use as a roof, window or door, having panels hinging together along their adjacent lengthwise edges, so as to fold into a zigzag pattern in the open position. One or more pairs of parallel guide rails (4, 5) run in their direction of movement, and are movable towards each other, so as to increase the opening angles between adjacent panels. A first panel (1a) at one end can be mounted so as to pivot but not slide. Each panel (1a-h) can have two or more guides (7) at its edge towards a rail, one of them being at the panel end and the other midway along its edge.
