Carboxylated polymers having side chains containing both at least one linkage selected from among amino, ether and thio ether linkages and a carboxyl group are produced by polymerizing monomer components comprising carboxylated monomers of general formula (3), (wherein 4 is hydrogen, allyl or -(CHR4)c-W2-(CHR5)d-COOR6; R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are each independently hydrogen or C1-C6 alkyl; W1 and W2 are each independently -NH-, -S-, or -O-; and a, b, c and d are each independently an integer of 0 to 6). The polymers are excellent in sequestering power and are usable as chelating agents or the like.
