The device has two cradles (11,16) in front of the chuck (2). The first cradle has an adjustable shoulder fixed by a precision screw and the second has another adjustable shoulder, also with a precision screw. The cradles are carried by an arm (8) which can travel from an upper working position into a rest position that lies below the chuck for mounting the workpiece. The arm operates in connection with the piston rod of a piston/cylinder unit. The shoulders have surfaces for locating the workpiece (5).
