The backing support (20) is formed by a metal strip (24) whose width matches the height of the support. A lower narrow side (26) of the support rests on a workpiece table and an upper narrow side (28) supports the workpiece (30) and are arranged in parallel planes. The backing support is rigid and formed by a closed ring. The ring backing can be made of two relatively movable parts with two angled pieces each made from a piece of metal strip bent round 90 degrees.
