PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To absorb ink recovered from an ink jet type recording head by utilizing effectively the whole of a porous ink absorber. SOLUTION: Ink recovered from a recording head by a pump 34 through a cap 32 is discharged from a discharge opening 46 and absorbed into a porous ink absorber 50. The ink absorber 50 is formed by overlapping plate-shaped porous blocks 54a-54f, and an ink non-permeable layer 56 is formed below a block 54c right under the discharge opening 46. The ink discharged out of the discharge opening 46 is diffused in the block 54c in the horizontal direction, passed through an ink permeable section 68 formed on the end of the ink non- permeable layer 56 on the side far from the discharge opening 46 and oozed into the blocks 54d-54f on the lower side. Ink is absorbed into the whole of the blocks forming the upper ink absorption layer as above-mentioned, and then the ink is absorbed into the blocks forming the lower ink absorption layer to utilize the whole of the ink absorber 50. |
