Photographic formulations contain viscosity-increasing, water-soluble, non-ionic, anionic or cationic polyacrylamides of formulae -CH2-CH(CONH2)n- (I), -(CH2-CH(CONH2))x-(CH2-CH(COO<->))yn- K<+> (II) or -(CH2-CH(CONH2))x-(CH2-CH(COOCH2CH2N<+>(Me)3))yn- A<-> (III) and of molecular weight 200000-2 million. In (I)-(III), K and A = cations or anions conventionally used with polyacrylamides; x, y = 0.1-1; and n = not defined.
